RICE FIELD DAY IN LEMERY, ILOILO | Rice farmers of Lemery, Iloilo gathered in Brgy. Marapal recently for the Field Day conducted by the Department of Agriculture (DA) Western Visayas and the Municipal Agriculture Office.

This wet cropping season, the DA established Rice Model Farms (RMFs) in Lemery.

The RMF technology demonstration project seeks to showcase to the rice farmers the yield advantage of using inbred and hybrid seeds which are of high quality. It was also aimed at determining the top performing varieties suitable for cultivation in Region 6.

Felix Jamelea, local farmer technician of Lemery, Iloilo cited that they have planted 3 inbred varieties of rice: NSIC 216, NSIC 416, and NSIC 402.

Johanne Defino of the DA Rice Program mentioned that the farmers in Lemery planted palay seeds through direct seeding and use of granule applicator.

She added that under the Program, the agency provides two bags of inbred seeds (at 40 kilograms per bag), and 4 bags of 14-14-14, one bag of urea and one bag of muriate of potash for every one hectare of demo farm.

Farmers were also encouraged to practice Integrated Pest Management in curbing pest incidents, and to use Rice Crop Manager mobile app in their rice production.
