P19.5-M FUND SEEKS TO REHABILITATE THE LIVESTOCK SECTOR IN AKLAN

To help the livestock and poultry farmers of Aklan province recover from their losses due to Typhoon Ursula devastation December last year, the Department of Agriculture (DA) Western Visayas turned over P19.5-million fund to the provincial government.

DA Regional Executive Director Remelyn R. Recoter said that some 2,132 animal raisers were affected by the calamity that caused millions of damages in the sector.

“In partnership with the provincial government, we want to assist farmers to restore their livelihood, promote food security and generate local economy as we will procure stocks locally,” she added.

Animal stocks including chicken, ducks, cattle, goat, swine, and carabao will be dispersed to 2,649 raisers of the 16 municipalities of Aklan.

Of the P19.5 million fund, the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist of Aklan allocates P1-million for the rehabilitation of greenhouses in the province . Recoter together with DA Agricultural Program Coordinating Officer for Aklan Glenn Mariano turned over the said intervention to Governor Florencio Miraflores on July 16.
