DA WV STRATEGIZED MARKETING DESIGN FOR FARMERS

Iloilo City – “We must not focus on production alone; we should assist our farmers in marketing and strategic planning. They should know where to sell their products.” Said Maria Theresa Solis, chief Agri-business and Marketing Assistance Division (DA-AMAD) 6, during the Municipal Agriculture Officers (MAOs) meeting held in the province of Aklan on August 28, 2020.

As new wave of marketing strategies emerged beneficial in the midst of economic crisis and Covid-19 pandemic in the country, DA-WV continue its quest for food sufficiency and has been pivotal in linking farmer-producers to consumers and markets.

Solis said that farmers should identify agri-fishery processors, traders and institutional buyers in their area and know their demands. Then, they should be organize in order to set a schedule of planting, what commodity to plant and the volume of needed production, in this way they could be ready for market links.

She emphasized that the DA-WV constantly help farmers improve their income by providing them with necessary information on production, programming and marketing.

This way the Local Government Units (LGUs) would play a very critical role in marketing Agri-products.

On the other hand, the DA, LGUs, food producers, civil society organizations found responsive measures to sustain and ensure the continuity of food supply in their communities and mitigate market disruptions caused by the pandemic.

The Bagsakan Centers, KOICA-funded Bayanihan Tipon Centers, Barangay Food Terminals and Municipal Food Terminals funded by DA are among the identified channels introduced to farmers as consolidation areas.

Solis also mentioned that the DA-AMAD services like the KADIWA ni Ani at Kita has gone far in the new normal aspect of marketing strategies. Aside from online selling, the kadiwa on wheels and Kadiwa outlets made a vigorous leap with regards to the income of farmers in the Region. Furthermore, on-line reports showed the total number of Kadiwa sales as of August 28, 2020 reach a total accumulated sale of Php20,476,073.98.
