DA’S SEARCH FOR OUTSTANDING FARMERS, FISHERS AND INSTITUTIONS IS ON

Gawad Saka is tagged as the most prestigious award given by the Department of Agriculture to the farmers, fishers, farmer and fisherfolk organization, researcher and agri-scientist and young farmers. The search aims to give honor and recognition to individuals, groups and institution in the field of agriculture and fisheries, whose exemplary accomplishments in their field of endeavor and significant contribution to the advancement of our country’s development, are worthy of emulation.

The search has 23 categories and divided into five groups – crops, livestock, fisheries, institutions and agricultural scientist and researcher.

Crops group is composed of 8 categories namely, (1) Rice Farmer, (2) Coconut Farmer, (3) Corn Farmer, (4) Sugarcane Farmer, (5) High Value Crops Farmer, (6) Organic Agriculture Farmers, (7) Agricultural Entrepreneur and (8) Young Farmer or Fisherfolk.

Gawad Saka is tagged as the most prestigious award given by the Department of Agriculture to the farmers, fishers, farmer and fisherfolk organization, researcher and agri-scientist and young farmers. The search aims to give honor and recognition to individuals, groups and institution in the field of agriculture and fisheries, whose exemplary accomplishments in their field of endeavor and significant contribution to the advancement of our country’s development, are worthy of emulation.

The search has 23 categories and divided into five groups – crops, livestock, fisheries, institutions and agricultural scientist and researcher.

Crops group is composed of 8 categories namely, (1) Rice Farmer, (2) Coconut Farmer, (3) Corn Farmer, (4) Sugarcane Farmer, (5) High Value Crops Farmer, (6) Organic Agriculture Farmers, (7) Agricultural Entrepreneur and (8) Young Farmer or Fisherfolk.

Livestock group is composed of two categories – the small animal raiser and the large animal raiser.

For the fisheries group, it is composed of fisherfolk for aquaculture fisheries category and fisherfolk for fish capture category.

The institution group is composed of nine categories – (1) Young Farmer or Fisherfolk; (2) Farmer or Fisherfolk Family; (3) Rural Improvement Club; (4) Small Farmer or Fisherfolk Organization; (5) Municipal or City Agriculture and Fishery Council; (6) Provincial Agriculture and Fishery Council; (7) Barangay Food Terminal (LGU); (8) Barangay Food Terminal (Non-LGU); and Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Management Council (FARMC).

And lastly, the search for Agricultural Researcher and Agricultural Scientist.

The cash prizes for the national winners in the individual categories such as Rice, Corn, Coconut, Sugarcane, High Value Crops, Organic Agriculture, Agricultural Entrepreneur and Young Farmer or Fisherfolk is Php 250,000.00 and Php 30,000.00 for their assisting technician.

The prize for young farmer or fisherfolk organization, rural improvement club, small famer or fisherfolk organization, municipal or city agriculture and fishery council, and provincial agriculture and fishery council will receive Php 50,000.00 cash prize and Php 300,000.00 project grant. The assisting technician of the national winner will receive Php 30,000.00.

National winner for the Farmer or Fisherfolk category will bring home Php 250,000.00 cash prize and Php 30,000.00 for the assisting technician. For the Barangay Food Terminal LGU and Non-LGU categories, winners will receive Php 350,000.00 each and Php 30,000.00 or their assisting technicians.

The cash prize for the Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Management Council is Php 450,000.00 and Php 30,000.00 for the assisting technician.

For the Agricultural Scientist and Agricultural Researcher categories, national winners will receive Php 200,000.00 cash prize and Php 2,000,000.00 worth of research grant.

The search starts at the municipal/city level, where model farmers, fishers, and farmer’s and fisherfolk groups are endorsed by their respective mayors to the provincial level.

All provincial entries will be validated by the Regional Technical and Search Committee. Qualified entries will be awarded during the Regional Gawad Saka Awarding Ceremony and will be endorsed for the national search. All regional winners of the individual categories will receive Php 50,000.00 cash prize. Group categories will receive Php 75,000.00 cash prize. All assisting technician of the regional winners will receive Php 15,000.00 cash prize.

This year marks the 48th year of the Gawad Saka Search.
