WV ORGANIC FARMERS JOINS 25TH PANAAD FESTIVAL
More than 30 organic growers and entrepreneurs showcased their produce at the Panaad Stadium and Park, Mansilingan, Bacolod City, Negros Occidental in line with the 25th Panaad Festival.
The week long activity (April14-22) with the theme, “Panaad @25: Promise Fulfilled” showcased organic vegetables and processed high value products of agri-entrepreneurs.
There will be an Agri-Clinic wherein technical persons and organic practitioners will share technologies,experiences and innovations on growing fruits,vegetables,rootcrops,herbs and high value commodities.

DA’S SEARCH FOR OUTSTANDING FARMERS, FISHERS AND INSTITUTIONS IS ON
Gawad Saka is tagged as the most prestigious award given by the Department of Agriculture to the farmers, fishers, farmer and fisherfolk organization, researcher and agri-scientist and young farmers. The search aims to give honor and recognition to individuals, groups and institution in the field of agriculture and fisheries, whose exemplary accomplishments in their field of endeavor and significant contribution to the advancement of our country’s development, are worthy of emulation.
The search has 23 categories and divided into five groups – crops, livestock, fisheries, institutions and agricultural scientist and researcher.
Crops group is composed of 8 categories namely, (1) Rice Farmer, (2) Coconut Farmer, (3) Corn Farmer, (4) Sugarcane Farmer, (5) High Value Crops Farmer, (6) Organic Agriculture Farmers, (7) Agricultural Entrepreneur and (8) Young Farmer or Fisherfolk.

MODEL FARMS TO INCREASE CORN PRODUCTION IN WV
The establishment of corn model farm is expected to increase production of five metric tons and three metric tons for yellow and white corn, respectively.
Liza Calmorin, Regional Corn Program Coordinator said that the corn model farm will be first establish in Calatrava, Negros Occidental this year.
“A model farm must have an area of 50-100 hectares and within the 30-40 kilometers of the corn cluster area This will be manage by a farmers’ organization duly registered either on the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) or Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) ,” Calmorin added.

PIÑOL OKAYS P39-M LOAN FUND TO AKLAN FARMERS, FISHERS
Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel F. Piñol has approved P39-million credit support under the Department of Agriculture’s (DA) Production Loan Easy Access (PLEA) program to farmers and fisherfolk of Aklan.
“Instead of subsidies, we will go for easy access credit. For every year, the government spends P10 billion for seeds distribution but it turns out non-sustainable,” Piñol added that the long procurement process derails the timely delivery of the projects.
Upon the validation of the Agricultural Credit Policy Council (ACPC), qualified farmers’ cooperatives can avail as much as P20-million credit assistance which individual farmer can get P15,000 to P45,000 production loan at six percent interest per year as what Piñol promised during his visit in Iloilo on Feb. 22.
