DA 6 Holds Poster Making Contest, Depicts Changing the Future of Migration, Investment in Food Security and Rural Development
The Department of Agriculture - RFO 6 together with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) conducts a Regional On-the-Spot Poster Making Contest at Robinsons Place Jaro, Iloilo City, October 3.
Nineteen pupils from 13 public and private elementary schools participated in the poster making contest.

P30M Agri Loan Fund for CHICKS Area
Farmers and fishermen of Candoni, Hinoba-an, Ilog, Kabankalan, and Sipalay City (CHICKS) in Negros Occidental will benefit from the government’s financing dubbed as Production Loan Easy Access (PLEA) program. Agriculture Secretary Manny Piñol committed P30 million loan fund, with P5 million for each town in CHICKS region.
During the Tapatan: Gobyerno kag Pumuluyo forum in Ilog on Sep. 28, Pinol had learned that local farmers are paying an interest of three sacks of rice for every P1,000 they borrow from private lenders.

‘Deliverable’ Projects for Negros Occidental Sugar Workers
In the midst of the ongoing crisis in the country’s sugar industry, Agriculture Secretary Manny F. Piñol convened with the members of the National Federation of Sugar Workers (NFSW) and committed to provide ‘deliverable’ interventions to support the sector.
During a dialogue held on Sep. 29, Piñol heard out the concerns of the sugar workers through NFSW chair Rolando Rillo and campaign officer Christian Bayol.
“I will be honest with you, there are things which I myself cannot address but I will provide direct and practical solutions to some of your constraints,” Piñol said.

Multi million agri projects up for Passi City
Farmers of Passi City, Iloilo will no longer depend on loan sharks to finance their farms. With the P10 million credit support promised by Agriculture Secretary Manny Piñol, each farmer can avail of production loan with only six percent interest rate without collaterals.
During the Tapatan program held on Sep. 8, Piñol stressed the importance of a government financing program to advance farming productivity of rice, vegetables and organic farmers as well as livestock raisers.

P24M Agri Machinery Testing Center to rise in Iloilo
The Agriculture Machinery Testing and Evaluation Center (AMTEC) Visayas Satellite worth P24-million will be constructed soon at Western Visayas Integrated Agricultural Research Center (WESVIARC), Jaro, Iloilo City.
Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary Emmanuel F. Piñol, who led the groundbreaking ceremony of the facility on Sep. 7, said "today we marked another milestone in our efforts to improve the quality of equipment that we provide to our farmers."

DA chief opposes oil depot in Dumangas; commits P20-M credit support to food producers
Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel F. Piñol signified his opposition to the proposed construction of oil depot in the 10-hectare lot in Brgy. Talusan, Dumangas, Iloilo. He signed yesterday (Sep. 7) a letter endorsing the position paper of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) 6 to Iloilo governor Arthur D. Defensor Sr.
Piñol backed BFAR’s stand on the issue that the possible oil spill incidence will cause serious damage to fisheries because the proposed project site is near the milkfish hatcheries, and fishing grounds of Dumangas.

Iloilo City to host Makina Expo 2017
The Department of Agriculture (DA) will hold this year’s Makina Expo in Iloilo City.
According to Regional Executive Director Remelyn Recoter, more than 3,000 participants from the different regions in the country are expected to attend the three-day mechanization confab. The Expo will be held simultaneously in Iloilo Convention Center (ICC) and Western Visayas Integrated Agricultural Research Center (WESVIARC), Hamungaya, Jaro, Sep. 7 to 9.
Senator Cynthia A. Villar, DA Secretary Emmanuel F. Piñol, and Sweden Ambassador to the Philippines Harald Fries will grace the opening program in ICC.
Formerly dubbed as Makina Saka, the Expo aims to enhance awareness on the effectiveness of using modern agricultural machineries and update the farmers on the latest mechanization technologies in the Philippines and in other countries.

Agri chief presents new credit scheme for irrigator’s and farmer’s association members

Iloilo City – Department of Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol presented the Kaibigan at Kaagapay Adopt-A-Farm (KAKAF) Program during the Joint National Irrigation Administration (NIA)-Irrigator’s Association (IA) Planning Workshop for the Implementation of the Revised IMT Program with Free Irrigation Service, Program in Iloilo Grand Hotel, Iloilo City, August 30.
The Kaibigan at Kaagapay Adopt-A-Farm Program aims to achieve greater productivity through a partnership between the government, the farmers and private companies and OFWs. This new credit scheme will allow irrigator’s associations to loan P 500, 000.00/ha for irrigated areas.
